Product Description
Tofranil is one of the main representatives of tricyclic antidepressants. Due to its high efficiency and clinical value, it has been used since the 50s until today. In addition to antidepressant has a stimulating effect. It is assigned for depressive states of various etiologies, including: asthenodepressive syndrome, depression (endogenous, involutional, climacteric, reactive, alcoholic), depressive states in psychopathy and neuroses, panic disorder, functional enuresis in children.
Safety information
Tofranil is assigned usually for an oral intake (after mealth), starting at 0.75-0.1 g per day, then gradually the dosage is increased (daily by 0.025 g) and finally comes to 0.2-0.25g per day. With the onset of an antidepressant effect, increasing the dose is not recommended. The treatment - on average - lasts 4-6 weeks, then the dose is gradually reduced and the treatment is switched to maintenance therapy (with 0.025 g 1-4 times a day).
The constant medical supervision of patients with suicidal tendencies is mandatory. During the treatment with tofranil, all alcoholic beverages are restricted. It is recommended to control the cellular composition of peripheral blood and liver function. During the treatment of patients with diabetes, the correction of doses of oral hypoglycemic drugs is necessary. During the initial period of therapy, we must abandon the management of vehicles and carry out potentially hazardous activities.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity, hepatic-renal failure, IHD, tachycardia, congestive heart failure, early post-infarction period, propensity to convulsions, schizophrenia, epilepsy, glaucoma, prostate adenoma, bladder atony, pregnancy, children's age (up to 6 years).
Side effects
On the part of the nervous system and sensory organs: headache, dizziness, excessive sedation, paresthesia, tremor, convulsions, dysarthria, impaired coordination of movements, sleep disturbance, agitation, hallucinations, disruption of accommodation.
On the part of the cardiovascular system and blood system (hematopoiesis, hemostasis): tachycardia, arrhythmia, orthostatic hypotension, leukocytosis or leukopenia, agranulocytosis.
On the part of the digestive tract: dryness in the oral cavity, constipation, hepatitis.
On the part of the genitourinary system: delay urination, gynecomastia, galactorrhea, decreased libido, impotence.
